County Chairman's Palace Garden Party Report
My exciting and memorable day started as my husband dropped me at Warrington Railway Station to catch the 9.12 train to Euston. Not having travelled on a train for years, this was quite a new experience in itself.

Cheshire Agricultural Society Show 2008 results
The full results of the Cheshire Show can be viewed by clicking here. This year, the theme was "The Glory Of The Garden"
Mrs Elizabeth Bromley-Davenport presented a fine silver bowl to the Cheshire Agricultural Society, in memory of her Mother and to celebrate her year as President of the Society. It is to be awarded annually for creative excellence in the WI competitions; and this year it was awarded to Kate Cawley of Frodsham WI. Kate also won first place in Class 10B - Fabric Craft: Garden Inspiration.
Our congratulations to all who took part in whatever capacity; this year was our best year to date!
To celebrate Cheshire’s Year of the Garden 2008, Cheshire Federation are working with the prestigious rose growers, "Fryers" of Knutsford, to develop a special rose to mark this occasion.
The selected rose is a delicate, perfumed, two-toned floribunda coloured from the palest peach to a delicate pink. The name chosen is "Jam & Jerusalem".
We hope that this will be a successful venture for both the Federation and Fryers Nurseries and it was launched at the recent RHS Show at Tatton Park.
WI members are be able to pre-order this rose at a cost of £7.50 for delivery in the Autumn and it will be sent bare-rooted & ready for planting. Thereafter, the rose will form part of the Fryers rose catalogue in 2009.
If any WI member wishes to order this rose, please contact CFWI Headquarters at 11 White Friars, Chester, C1 1NZ, on the completed application form, which can be downloaded by clicking here.

The High Sheriff’s Cheshire Prize for Literature
Lynda Baguley writes to tell us about the High Sheriff’s Cheshire Prize for Literature, which she is organising this year.
Lynda says: "I know many of your members have a keen interest in creative writing, and this competition not only offers a first prize of £2000 but also the chance to be published. The Cheshire Prize for Literature has been supported by the High Sheriff of Cheshire each year, and this year’s High Sheriff, Mr Alastair Stoddart, has kindly added his support."
"The Prize is open to anyone over eighteen with a Cheshire connection; so anyone who lives, has lived, studies or has studied, works, or was born in Cheshire, is entitled to enter. This is a non-profit making enterprise to encourage the literary talents of the people of Cheshire. The closing date is 1 September 2008."
