To make new friends. To widen your horizons, meet new people and go to new places. To learn new or develop existing skills, or simply to meet others with similar interests and enjoy them together. To have a positive impact on your local community.
To take part in national campaigns on such high profile issues as a more sustainable environment, international human rights for women, better services in local communities and improved screening for ovarian cancer. Currently the WI is working to improve the provision of school nurses, (a resolution that was put forward by a Cheshire Federation member), also raising the issue of abuse of the elderly and the training of care workers. At our Annual Meeting there will be still more concerns voiced that have been raised by members and WI’s across the country, members vote on those they want to promote both locally and nationally with representations being made to other organisations and Government departments.

Associate Membership
If you are interested but don’t always have the time to attend WI monthly meetings, why not become an Associate Member? This way, you can balance career, home and family and yet be an active member in the comfort of your own home. As an Associate you will receive a copy of the WI’s monthly magazine Home and Country, be kept informed with all the latest national and local news from the Associates quarterly newsletter and your regional monthly bulletin.
You will be able to attend the WI’s own adult education centre. Denman College, which runs over 500, courses a year from Indian head massage to study tours abroad, music and arts and crafts. You will be able to join all out national events at the WI rate.
